Pain-Wise- help in Arun for people at different stages of pain

vaac-logo-2jpg

Pain-Wise is part of a new multi-agency offer in Littlehampton for groups at different stages of joint, bone or muscle pain (MSK issues).

There are two groups currently running under this pilot.

The first group looks at reaching people with new or non-chronic MSK pain with wraparound support before they become persistent pain issues, because of the direct link between chronic MSK issues and developing cardiovascular issues, diabetes and osteoarthritis in later life.

The idea behind the Chilgrove House drop-in is for residents to engage with a variety of support around the wider issues that are either causing their pain or stopping them from taking steps to alleviate it or improve their health. It’s hosted by Community Development colleagues, and also present are a clinician and Social Prescriber to offer clinically-backed MSK advice and practical support.

The second group is for those who already have persistent pain and is peer led with support from the NHS Living Well service. The pain does not have to be MSK related in order to come to these sessions.

The persistent pain group is being supported to continue long-term and the drop-ins at Chilgrove House are running until the end of June. Dependent on how this pilot does, we may see this offer extended across Arun to run long-term.
