Welcome to your quarterly update on all things Southern Water in West Sussex.

We’ll use this newsletter to share the information we're sharing with our customers in your area and important updates on our operations, investments or incidents which matter to you. In future editions we will provide more information on our overall performance, as well as updates from teams including our Clean Rivers and Seas Task Force and Capital Delivery.

Our full customer newsletter (going out this week) is attached, and we've also pulled out some of the key items below.

We've also included a short note on how to get in touch with your team here at Southern Water, and our key contacts to get in touch with our customer service teams. We hope you find this useful. If you have any feedback, please don't hesitate to let us know.

With best wishes,

Keeping you updated

Multi-million pound upgrades completed at West Sussex wastewater treatment works

Recent upgrades to wastewater treatment works in West Sussex are improving water quality in local rivers, with new technology reducing nutrients and strengthening resilience.

Saving water as we head into summer

Following a dry spring, water resources are under increasing pressure.

During warmer weather, demand rises significantly, and restrictions can be needed in prolonged dry periods.

We would appreciate your support in encouraging residents to use water wisely, helping to reduce the need for future restrictions. To help everyone make savings, we've launched our new water calculator.

Wet wipes and blockages

Wet wipes continue to be a major cause of sewer blockages.

Across our regions, tens of thousands of blockages are cleared each year, many linked to wipes being flushed, even when labelled as ‘flushable’.

The message remains simple: please encourage residents to put wipes in the bin, not down the toilet.

Surfers Against Sewage changes to Safer Rivers and Seas App

From June 2026, Surfers Against Sewage's SSRS app will use our tidal modelling to provide alerts across bathing waters in our region, rather than their previous precautionary approach. This means there are likely to be fewer alerts at your local swim spot on the app, but when alerts are issued they will be more accurate.
