Getting Around

Policy GA1 Public Right of Way Network AMENDED

Support will be given to proposals that improve and extend the existing footpath, cycle path and bridleway network to create Public Bridleways, allowing greater access to the village centres, green spaces and the open countryside for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The loss of existing footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways will be resisted.

Alterations and enhancements to footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways must ensure that they are adequately screened and fenced from existing properties.

Policy GA2 Parking in new development AMENDED

Development proposals will be supported only if they include the maximum level of off-street parking consistent with the most current standards. Developments that reduce the amount of off-street parking currently available will only be supported if they make enforceable provision for equivalent off-street parking nearby. Parking spaces provided in connection with such proposals will be required to be made available in perpetuity.

Policy GA3 Access to new development SAVED

New residential access ways should be designed for all modes of transport, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders as well as vehicles as appropriate.
The layout of development should be in accordance with the principles of “secured by design” and ensure that movement routes and play areas are safeguarded by “passive surveillance”.
Boundaries along new and existing access routes which respect local character, including low hedges, walls and fences should be supported.

Policy GA4 Promoting sustainable movement SAVED

Development proposals with a significant transport impact should demonstrate how these impacts are mitigated, including as appropriate through:

  • extension or improvement of walking and cycling routes
  • supporting improvements to public and community transport service; and
  • avoiding loss of existing footpaths or cycle routes.
