Why Eating Well Matters – Especially in Winter
Staying nourished in Winter is essential for energy, muscle strength, circulation, and overall resilience. A diet rich in vitamin D, omega-3, and B vitamins helps to support brain health and helps reduce winter tiredness or low mood.
Health & Independent Living Support (HILS) makes eating well easy by delivering hot, nourishing meals to homes across West Sussex. The service runs 365 days a year, with no contracts you can order as often as you need them. Each visit includes a two-course hot meal and dessert or soup, plus a caring wellbeing check from friendly Community Team Members.
All of their Community Team Members are DBS checked and can let themselves in through key safes, fetch cutlery, plate meals up and offer clients a glass of water. This is a vital part of the service for some more vulnerable clients.
Having a hot meal delivery not only helps to keep clients healthy it is also the social connection that the service brings. Clients enjoy friendly chats with familiar faces which helps to reduce isolation, especially among those living on their own.
“I love the cheerful, friendly and welcoming greeting from the delivery driver, often the only human contact I have in a day. I also love having a hot meal delivered to my door.” – meals on wheels client.
Meals are delivered between 11am and 2pm and with a wide range of meals to choose from and all dietary requirements catered for there is something for everyone to enjoy.
You can also add a chilled Tea Pack for later, featuring sandwiches or a traditional cream tea.
This Christmas, HILS clients will enjoy a traditional Honey Roast Turkey dinner with all the trimmings - rich gravy, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, and sweet honey-roasted parsnips. And for dessert? A classic Christmas pudding or indulgent sherry trifle. Christmas can feel lonely for those living alone, but a visit from HILS means more than just a hot meal. If you notice a loved one struggling with meals or losing weight over the holidays, give us a call on 0330 2000 103 or visit www.hils-uk.org. We also offer a free Nutrition and Wellbeing support service for clients who are showing signs of malnutrition through weight loss.
Thank you for your assistance.
